Yeah the FW swatches leave something to be desired when compared to Illustrator. You can create custom swatch sets, though and load them, so while it’s not as flexible as AI, you do have some control.

Illustrator is great in this regard, allowing you to group them and move them around easily. With Fireworks, it’s tough. I’ve looked for Extensions to aid me in this matter, but it doesn’t appear that there are any.
